Why is tyre tread so important?
With today's super busy lives, time can feel like it's on fast forward. We often find that months have flown by and we've not given our car maintenance much thought.
While it might seem like just another thing to add to an already long 'to do' list, we can not express enough how important it is to check your tyre tread.
This check is possibly one of the most important at-home checks you can do on your car. As well as being a legal obligation, the correct tyre tread is also vital for the safety of you and your passengers. Worn tyres can increase stopping distances, especially in wet weather - increasing the chances of aquaplaning and losing control of your vehicle.
Tire tread depth must be above 1.6mm in the middle three quarters of the tyre for them to be legal. Stay safe (and avoid a hefty fine and points on your license) with this quick one minute check:
The 20p test:
Take a 20p piece and insert it into the tread of each tyre. If the outer band of the coin is hidden, your tyres are safe.
We recommend you carry out this test regularly. If you're worried about forgetting - why not setting up a reoccurring reminder on your phone? Many of our customers find this the easiest way the make sure this vital check doesn't drop off their radar!
