Choosing the right tyres for your vehicle

Whatever the issue a fault diagnostic test reveals, at Quality Car Servicing we’ll carry out all the necessary investigations and repairs to your vehicle at a more competitive price than any main dealer.

Do I choose winter or summer tyres?

In the UK, we don’t generally change tyres depending on the season, but it is worth knowing the difference should you be travelling abroad to a colder climate, or in case of a particularly harsh UK winter.

Winter tyres

Winter tyres are made from a rubber compound that doesn’t become brittle in extreme cold (below 7°C), and the tread is designed to have more traction in slippery conditions.

Summer tyres

Summer tyres perform best at temperatures over 7°C, but due to their specific tread pattern, they’re able to perform equally well throughout the seasons and on both wet and dry surfaces.

At Quality Car Service, Milton Keynes, we provide a huge range of all season tyres in both budget and premium brands for many types of vehicle, but should you specifically require summer or winter tyres, we can order them in.

Common Tyre Questions

What size tyres do I need?

To find out the right size tyre for your vehicle, it’ll either be in the handbook, written on a sticker in the door jam or on the sidewall of your current tyres.

Another option would be to come down to Quality Car Service in Milton Keynes, where our experienced tyre fitting experts will know exactly the size of tyre your vehicle requires and make sure it’s fitted correctly and ready for a few more miles of happy, safe motoring.

Do I need run-flat tyres?

Run-flat tyres aren’t essential, but the advantage they have over regular tyres is that they have a stiffened side-wall designed to continue supporting your vehicle (for about 50 miles) in the event of puncture.

Although a great choice of tyre for most modern cars, run-flat tyres are only recommended for vehicles fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system.

At Quality Car Service, we stock and fit various makes of run-flat tyres and can advise you on the most suitable option for the make and model of your vehicle.

Should I buy used or part-worn tyres?

Although it may be legal for garages in the UK to sell used or part-worn tyres, at Quality Car Service we strongly recommend you only buy brand new tyres.

Used or part-worn tyres will probably be cheaper than new tyres and can appear to be in good condition, but they often come with hidden defects, such as unsafe repairs, cracked sidewalls or objects embedded within the treads.

At Quality Car Service, we only sell high-quality, safety inspected, brand new tyres in both budget and premium ranges which we order direct from our trusted supplier.
